Thank You, Timothy Keller

Many of you are probably aware of the news that Timothy Keller is stepping down from Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC this summer.

If you have not heard about the plan then here is a good summary: The Rev. Timothy Keller to Step Down From Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

Keller and the church have a decades old plan in place to turn all the locations of Redeemer into independent churches.

I want to thank Keller for this example of passing the torch and a great example of training up others to replace you well. Now we obviously do not know how these churches and leaders will fare after Keller’s exit but the plan is commendable and something all of us who are in small churches and large churches should be preparing for.

Here are a few more reasons I want to thank Keller:

Thank You For Intellectually Articulating the Gospel

Keller is able to communicate well to people looking for an intellectual reason to believe in Jesus. He has done this well in his local church context and in the media. This has been an encouragement for me as someone who appreciates the intellectual argument and a great help communicating to people who need this argument in my own community.

Thank You For Your Pastoral Example

As Keller has impeccably led the local church for many years he leaves a lasting example of leading in the church. He has been able to create a congregation that is attractional to young professionals in NYC. That is pretty impressive!

Thank You For The Indispensable Resources

Here at RookiePreacher we love Keller’s recent book Preaching. To me it is a book I will come back to again and again. It so clearly and eloquently addresses how and why we need to preach the Gospel every time.

Some other books of his that I have appreciated very much include The Meaning of Marriage, The Reason for God, and the Prodigal God.

I am sure he will have some great future resources as well. Thank you Timothy Keller for the impact you have made in culture, as an example to pastors, and the great resources you have written. I cannot wait to see what is next!

Thank You Timothy Keller
