Dream Big in Your Preaching

Many times preaching can go through the motions. We can put together a series and touch on a major point and a variety of topics that get us there. We can share the Gospel message at the end and basically what we have done is told people, “do this because the Bible says to” and then we leave it at that.

1.27.16

Then we get frustrated because people are not doing what we tried to inspire them to do in our preaching. Did we cast vision of what could be? How much better their life could be? Their neighbors life? The church’s life?

We need to dream big in our preaching so our audience can dream big in their life. So how do we do this?

We dream big in our preaching by showing others how things can change, how they can get better, how they can increase their faith, and how they can better follow Jesus in their life, relationships, and actions. This is what I mean when I talk about dreaming big in our preaching. Going beyond just teaching a moral principle, but showing people where their life can improve by applying that principle.

So why do we need to dream big?

Dreaming Big Shows What Could Be

This is so important. Many times I have seen preaching that riffs on a great moral topic. This is great. But, what is missing sometimes is the reason (other than it is in the Bible) that people should apply the truth to their lives. When we inspire the listener to dream big we are showing them what could be for their life. Not only should you do this because it is written in the Bible and it is a good moral principle, you should do this because it has the power to fix your marriage, or  your relationships. See dreaming big in our preaching can give great hope of what could be in the listener’s life!

Dreaming Big is Inspiring

When we dream big in anything it is inspiring. “If we put this plan into action because we are followers of Jesus and we love our  neighbor we can make a massive impact in our city’s drug problem.” This is an example of a way you could dream big in your preaching

Dreaming Big is a Huge Part of the Gospel

The major part of your preaching should be proclaiming the Gospel and when we think about it the Gospel is a major representation of dreaming big. The fact that Jesus a man with no Earthly significance but also fully God and able to save all humanity! That should inspire us to dream big in our lives!

Dreaming Big Encourages Action

When we want to inspire action in our preaching we need to dream big. We also need to cause the listener to dream big about their faith and their life. When we are able to do this our chance to see action increases because people start believing in what could be for their life, the lives around them, and the life of the church. This is a big deal and when we dream big and allow others to dream big through our preaching we will see lives changed through the Gospel!
